GLOBAL WARMING

The world is changing in many aspects but one of the most important is the climate. The weather is getting hotter; as a result, the ice is melting; eliminating the habit for the polar bears, penguins, and other animals of “cold blood” or cold weather. This affecting our world and is important to know and realize what is affecting our world. There are two types of causes of global warming: natural causes and man-made causes’. Humans could slow down the process if they want to save our planet, even if it isn’t easy.

One natural cause is the methane gas; from the arctic tundra and wetlands. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is very dangerous for our environment. The greenhouse gas; methane, traps heat in the world’s atmosphere and this is what makes the weather hotter. As we know: natural causes aren’t the biggest problem. We could stop these planting trees.

The biggest causes of the global warming are caused by humans. Some of them are pollution and population. First of all, pollution; people pollute the world every single day. They use paper, paper bags; they throw everything to the garbage, without recycling because is not in their regular habits, so this creates a lot of pollution around the world. Then world’s population is increasing every day, so this means that people is going to need more food, which also means that they are going to produce more trash. Also with the increasing they are going to need more methods of transportation, so more cars, and more pollution.

Humans should take care of the planet because we have only one, if we eliminate some species, their habitats, and their food, there’s no opportunity to start again the live, and the planet, so we should stop the global warming now. The earth and the future generations depend on us.

Task: Write a cause and effect essay on the causes and effects of globalization.
Globalization is a process where all the countries of the world adopt the same traditions, culture, food, language, religion, technology and others. For example, football makes the whole world get together every four years, to enjoy the World Cup. Globalization has some causes and effects; Some of them are migration, international bussiness and economy. Everything can seems very positive but globalization also has some negative effects such as: lack of identity, pollution and capitalism.
First of all, the principal cause is migration. People migrate to other countries, trying to change their lifestyle for a better one. To look for better jobs, better salaries, houses and more. People migrate to other countries different than their homecountry to persue their education, to learn other languages with native speakers of the language that they want to learn. Also international bussiness help the globalization process, because they look for new customers and a new market. Since the society is always waiting for new technologies, international companies often move to other countries. Economy is another cause of globalization; commerce is always trying to expand their power, usually coming from developed countries such as: China and The United States of America. This developed countries sell millions of products to other countries, improving their economy.
However, globalization has some negative effects too. The lack of identity is one of them, for example, in Costa Rica people love to eat pizza which is not Costarican, they love Macdonal’s and hamburguers that came from North America. Sushi, the new trend, came from Japan, but when we talk about eating “gallo pinto” which is a typical costarican dish people get bored; instead of feeling identify with the national things. Pollution is the worst effect of gobalization; the big metropolis, many cars, people buying things that they don’t need, people. The big companies compete about who sells the most, about being the best, but they are the worst destroying the environment. People usually don’t know how to use natural resources in a resonable way. Capitalism, exchanging products with other countries, adopting their tradittions instead of using what our country produces, and our own traditions.
Globalization is a process that has several causes, and effects such as: migration, international bussiness and economy; which is good because we get to know other countries, culture, languages and more. Globalization also has negative effects such as: lack of identity, pollution and capitalism. For example, in Costa Rica, people adopt traditions, food, and culture coming from developed countries losing the costarican identity. Globalization made the world better in some way, because people became friendlier to share with people from other countries, decreasing the racism, but also needs to be controled to avoid the negative effects.

Same Sex Marriage (Argumentative Essay)

Argumentative Essay (Debate) Same Sex Marriage

Humans always need love from others, and most of them need a couple to share their personal lives, their happiness and their sadness, someone who will be there for them. Normal couples is a woman and a man, wife and husband, however there’s also people that don’t fine a perfect couple in the opposite sex. Nowadays homosexuality is becoming more popular, and if something is socially accepted don’t necessary means that is right. For example drinking alcohol is not healthy but is normal if people do it sometimes. On the other hand homosexuality is not always accepted for several reasons, such as: is against all human evolution, is disrespectful for kids and society, and goes against every religious thought.
If the laws allow same sex marriage, lesbians and gays are going to get married. Since is physically impossible for two women or two men to have kids, there’s going to decrease the number of babies in the society. If they permit that a homosexual couple gets married, they have to let all the homosexual couples to get married and nobody will have babies. So if they make legal the same marriage sex our human reproduction and evolution is going to be reduced. If they approve homosexuality is going to become socially accepted and a trend, when homosexuality is not something that should be encourage at all.
Our Costarican society is very conservative and in their majority they are Catholics so is going to be very shocking for most of them. Mostly for older people, for example our grandparents, they won’t approve homosexuality at all; not even for me, a teenager, when I see a homosexual couple kissing each other is uncomfortable, and weird.
If sex same marriage is legal, they’ll teach the kids that is normal and accepted when is not, the normal thing is a man and a woman.
If homosexuals want to have a relationship they have all the freedom, and they already have the civil rights as a single person they don’t need to be a couple to have civil rights. I respect all of them, but I don’t think that homosexuality should be thought to the children as something normal, and it shouldn’t be legally approved.

Ethnic Conflicts

Ethnic Conflicts

In many countries and many periods a person’s ethnic identity has had profound consequences for his or her physical safety, political status, and economic prospects. Violent confrontation along ethnic lines is the most apparent form of ethnic conflict, and it recently has claimed lives in such diverse places throughout the world. The three most terrible ethnic conflicts have been the conflict in Rwanda, the Arab-Israeli crisis, and The Holocaust during World War II.
One important ethnic conflict was the Hutu and the Tutsi conflict in Rwanda. There are two major ethnic groups in this African country: the Hutu and the Tutsi. When the country was colonized by the Belgians in 1916 they claimed that the Tutsi were superior to the Hutu based on the idea that their skins were lighter and their features more European. As a result, the Hutus suffered years of repression by the Tutsi. In 1994, the Hutus took revenge. Tutsi people were slaughtered, hunted out of their homes, killed with guns or machetes and left to die on the road by unofficial military group called the Interahamwe (“those who attack together”) and Hutu civilians were forced to murder their neighbors and children were not spared in an insane effort to wipe out the next Tutsi generation. Over 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the space of 100 days.
Moreover the Arab-Israeli crisis is a conflict that has several reasons such as: territory, religious and political views. Since World War II, the Jewish People lived in different countries of the world, especially in Europe. The Jewish relationship with the rest of the world was not always easy, since their clamming their own territory, so they tried to convert Palestine into their territory to expand their culture and their religion, but this territory was already Christian’s and Muslim’s territory. Even thought at the beginning it was only a small community of Jewish in Palestine, they increase rapidly their community, their religion, culture and power.
Another terrible conflict was The Holocaust, during World War II, when Adolf Hitler took over the German Control, and he was a dictator. This was when the Nazis tried to put an end to the Jewish race. They tried to eliminate the Jews living in Europe, and they killed six millions of Jews. The Germans exterminated the Jews because they thought that they had “purity of blood” and the Jews hadn’t. They prohibit marriage between Jews and Germans to protect German’s blood and honor. In the concentration and labor camps the Nazis killed millions of Jews. It was a massive murder of Jews.
Ethnic conflicts such as in Rwanda, The Arab-Israeli crisis, and The Holocaust during World War II triggered the worst feelings as a human being can have. Any country or society can trough such terrors. Different religion, race, and beliefs are not good reasons to kill each other. It depends on new generations not to repeat the terrible crimes against humanity committed in different times and places.

Globalization of Diseases

There are many diseases that are spread around the world, as a consequence of globalization. One example is AIDS; according to the World Health Organization an estimated of 1,039,000 persons in the USA were suffering of AIDS. Also 39.5 millions of people worldwide suffer HIV (West Nile Virus). According to Wildlife diseases the WNV has spread to North America, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and other countries. A documental has prove that this kind of virus affects the person’s nervous system. The most recently detected virus is the HIN1, also known as “swine flu”. To avoid this globalization of diseases people should follow some advices from specialists such as: wash their hands with soap, frequently. Don’t cough or sneeze close to other people; use their shoulder to cover when sneezing or coughing. Use alcohol in gel as many times as you want to keep your hands free of bacterias.

Weapons of Mass Destruction

Weapons of mass destruction have many nagative concequenses. These weapons causes many genetical diseases, because of the radioactivity after the explotion, like in Hiroshima, where a lot of childre were born with physical deformations, says the internet site ABC Science. Develop this kind of weapons cost a lot of money and time that could be used in education, poverty and other very important aspects that are more important than war. War is not important, peace is important.
Countries should be more worried about in people’s health tahn people destruction. To rebuild all the buildings destroyed by the explotion is very expensive for any country in the world.
The weapons of mass destruction are no good for any society or country in the world. It’s not necessary to mention all the death that these kind of weapons causes, “300000 people died, including 48000 soldiers” (Global Security), and this kind of things should never happen again.

Task: INNOVATION WEEK (Ambientes Inteligentes). Write a letter, to the organizer, on what you learned at the activity you attended.
Dear Sirs Organizers of the INNOVATION WEEK at ULACIT.
First of all, I would like to thank you for your effort and your time, for coming to the university and for showing us interesting things.
In the Rally Tecnologico I went to several stands such as: PANDA, 3M, MICROSOFT, and others.
Some of the stands were really interestings, they give some things to the students that visited them, like chocolats, rules, candys and others. Is interesting and I think we have to support companies that are working hard to save our planet. Working with recicled paper, and boxes and others.
Saving the planet starts in each house, but now that there are big companies working for the environment is in us to support them and in that way we will be helping our Earth. Using solar energy for the water, using recicled paper, using petroleo with vegetable oil and some other things is what I leaned at the Rally Tecnologico in ULACIT.
I look forward to see you next time in my university.
Yours sincerely,
Laura Elizondo Clachar.
